Welcome New Students!

  PRINT

We are thankful for the diversity that you bring to the university, and we hope that your transition to American university life will go smoothly. In order to facilitate this, we would like to share with you some information about your arrival, scholarship information, and about the process for paying tuition once you arrive at the university. It has been our experience in the past that a number of new international students have encountered specific problems with these areas, and so our purpose in sharing this information, is to assist you in preventing similar difficulties.

Check-in Information

All new international students must attend the International Student Check-In. This gives staff at International Student Services (ISS) the opportunity to review and copy your immigration documents and to verify your legal immigration status. We will also remove the ISS registration block (one of several registration blocks you may have) at this time, in order to allow you to register for courses.

If you are not a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident, then you are classified as an international student.

Dates

The first check-in process and orientation is organized by the International Student Services Office for all newly admitted international students.  The following chart will provide information about our check-in for 2008.

Because health care in the US is expensive, it is the policy of Texas A&M University that all international students have medical health insurance coverage during the semester one is enrolled. Students who have families with them or have short-term visitors are strongly encouraged to obtain additional insurance coverage for them (this is required for all J-visa holders). There are several important facts and terms that you need to know about health insurance. Please, click here .

All international students are initially blocked from registration. In order to have the blocks removed, students must
