About IPA

The Institute for Pacific Asia (IPA) at Texas A&M University is one of three regional centers within the International Programs Office (IPO), and is the unit which serves to coordinate A&M's initiatives in the Asia Pacific region. Founded in 1987, the IPA promotes the exchange of knowledge and ideas between researchers, scholars and students at Texas A&M by developing partnerships with counterpart universities, private and public sector organizations, and other relevant entities located in the Asia Pacific region. We build upon Texas A&M University's strengths in science, technology, economic and social development to engage faculty and students in the exchange of knowledge with the most dynamic growth region of the 21st Century - Asia Pacific.

In addition, the IPA, working with the faculty at Texas A&M, also initiates and oversees research projects of significant intellectual and social importance focusing on the Asia-Pacific Region.

Founded in 1987, the Institute for Pacific Asia serves as a:

  • Strategic center for long term planning of Asian initiatives and focus
  • Coordination center for existing and new research partnerships and educational partnerships in Asia
  • Advocacy center for Asian studies, Asian study abroad, and integration of Asia into non-Asian specific subjects
  • Information center for the A&M community concerning funding, grants, and opportunities
  • Communicating with Asian alumni and the external community concerning our initiatives.
