- September 7, 2001: IPA Recieves Grant For China Project - The Institute for Pacific Asia (IPA) at Texas A&M University has received a $150,000 grant from the U.S. State Department to carry out a 12-month technology-information-exchange project with China.

- July 21-August 17, 2001: Summer Session of Asian Studies Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan - For 40 years Sophia University's Summer Session of Asian Studies has provided the opportunity for both students and teachers to study and reflect on the relation of Japan, Asia, and the world.
- July 8, 2001: About 100 guests from around the state of Texas attended a roundtable discussion and panel on the Indonesian Constitution. Important and historically significant proposed changes were discussed, all in Bahasa Indonesian. The Indonesian Students Association, Consulate General of Indonesia in Houston and IPA hosted the event cooperatively.

The Monbusho Summer Program in Japan, the Summer Institute in Korea and the Summer Institute in Taiwan provide graduate students in science and engineering first-hand experience in Japanese, Korean and Taiwan research environments.

- May 16, 2001: Institute for Pacific Asia organized Research & Development visit to south Korea on Biotechnology (by invitation of Korean Research Institute on Bioscience Biotechnology ) to develop cooperative research and plan for a bioethics workshop co-sponsored by National Science Foundation and Korean Science Engineering Foundation involving Seoul National University, Michigan State, Rutgers and Texas A&M.

- December 12, 2000: Korean Scholarships-The Association of Former Students is pleased to announce the arrival of 3 scholarships in the amount of $3000 each to be awarded to 3 Korean students studying here at Texas A&M. The scholarships are for the Fall 2000 and Spring 2001 academic year and are provided by the Seoul and Tae-Geon branches of Korean Aggie Clubs. The recipients are Mrs. Koeun Lee and Mr. Hojoon Chi enrolled in the new School of Rural Public Health, Texas A&M University System Health Science Center and Mr. Jaehwan Baik in General Studies. - Japan-U.S. Initiative Program-Texas A&M University has been selected in a nationwide competition under the auspices of the American Association of Colleges and Universities. The AAC&U sponsors this as part of the Japan-U.S. Initiative program to develop reciprocal exchange programs with top-ranked Japanese universities.
- New NSF Grant Approved-The National Science Foundation has approved a $100,000 grant to fund a project on the Public Understanding of Science. The initiative is a cooperative partnership between China, Japan and the United States.
- Dr. Bednarz Received Grant from Austrilan Studeis Association-In collaboration with the Institute for Pacific Asia, Assistant Professor of Geography Dr. Sarah Bednarz applied for and received a unique national-level planning grant. The funds will be used for a workshop for social studies educators focusing on Australia. The grant came from the Australian Studies Association of North America.
