Facts about the Mid Autumn Festival

  • Also known as: Moon Festival, Lantern Festival, Chuseok (Korean), and Tet Trung Thu (Vietnamese)
  • Occurs on: the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. This year, it falls on September 14, 2008, and next year, it will be on October 3, 2009.
  • Zodiac significance: the moon is at its fullest and brightest this time of the year.
  • Celebrated in: China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam
  • Celebration of: abundance and togetherness
  • Festive food: mooncake, pomelo, star fruit, water caltrop
  • Festive activities: hanging brightly lit lanterns outdoor, burning incense, planting trees, having a big feast with family
