CELEBRATE LUNAR NEW YEAR AT TEXAS A&M

COLLEGE STATION, February 4, 2008 – February 7, 2008 (this Thursday) is the Lunar New Year, one of the most celebrated days in a lot of Asian countries, especially China, Korea, & Vietnam. At Texas A&M University, various organizations have also planned on events to commemorate this very special festival.

(1)  Lunar New Year Celebration and Dinner at Sbisa

Organizers:        Confucius Institute at Texas A&M University, Institute for Pacific Asia, Dining                             Services, Residence Life, Chinese Students & Scholars Association
 What:                The evening festivities will include a Tai Chi demonstration, traditional                                       Chinese dances, pipa (Chinese string instrument) solo, Taekwondo demo,                             and an  Asian/Chinese dress parade of local children.  In addition, a lion and                             dragon dance, performed by Lee’s Golden Dragon, will lead participants in a                              march to Sbisa for a grand finale.
 When:                 5:30 p.m., February 7, 2008
 Where:                Sbisa
 How:                   Performance is free for all. Just show up & enjoy! Tickets for the dinner buffet                             are available at the door for $8.88 (meal plans are allowed); kids aged 3 to                             12 are $5.08 and children under 3 are free.

(2)  Chinese New Year Dinner Party

Organizer:           TAMU China Faculty Association (CFA)
 What:                 TAMU China Faculty Association (CFA), in collaboration with the local Chinese                              community, will be organizing a Chinese New Year Dinner Party, featuring                              seafood buffet and door prizes. The details are as follows.  Due to limited                              seating, advanced registration is required on a “first come, first serve” basis.                              Please register at your earliest convenience.  This will be a great opportunity                              to celebrate the Chinese New Year with your colleagues and friends with                              interests and ties to China.
When:                  6:30pm, Feb. 9 (Saturday), 2008.  
Where:                Taste of China, 2702 Texas Ave South, College Station, TX 77840. (Phone:                              695-8188)
Who:                    TAMU Faculty, staff, their families and guests;
Cost:                    $11.00 for adults; $6.00 for kids (4-12) (Tea & non-alcoholic drinks included).                              Payment is expected at registration.  
Registration:         Registration is accepted before 5:00pm, Feb. 4, 2008 (first come, first serve).                             We need an exact head count one week in advance; no late registration is                              accepted.  
How:                    To register, please stop by Taste of China in person and admission ticket                              will be issued when you register. Please do not lose your ticket(s), which will                              be used for admission and door prize drawing during the party.

(3)  2008 Chinese New Year Variety Show

Organizer:           Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA)
What:                 Chinese New Year is the biggest traditional festival for Chinese of the entire                             world. It is a great opportunity to taste the beautiful singing, dancing, and                             other Chinese cultural performances! It is our great honor and pleasure to                             invite you to attend the show and spend a wonderful night with us.
When:                 7-10PM, Feb10, 2008
Where:                Rudder Theatre
How:                   Tickets are now available at MSC Box Office (Hours: M-F: 11am-5pm; and Feb                            10 (Sunday) 6pm-7:15pm)
