By Michelle Mullens

Abstract:

The special relationship between France and the United States, spanning more than two centuries, has been strained throughout the past fifty years. The study will attempt to show the differences in policy and expectations in foreign relations and establish the reasoning behind the differences in expectation for the Bosnian conflict, war in Afghanistan, and the International Criminal Court.

About the author:

Michelle Mullens is a Political Science major at Texas A&M. In summer 2001, she took part in the Normandy program led by Dr. John Robertson. One year later, Michelle was an intern-fellow at the Deutsch-Französisches Institut in Ludwigsburg/Germany. She will be attending the University of Miami School of Law in the fall and plans to pursue a career in international law.

Understanding French Opposition
By Zachry Brown

Abstract:

This paper explores the complex nature of French opposition to the U.S.-led war in Iraq. For many Americans, popular French opposition was seen as the same as the opposition put forth by French political actors; however, the objectives of these two groups were fundamentally different and deserve our understanding and awareness.

About the author:

Zachry Brown is a second year student from Houston, Texas, who recently spent two months in Argentina studying Spanish. Majoring in International Studies, Zachry plans to attend law school after graduation. His main region of study is Latin America, with a particular interest in Mexico. Zachry took part in an educational program that focused on France. He went to Paris to attain first-hand information about his topic of research.
