Dinner in a U.S. Home

 PRINT

International students stay in the United States for a limited time period. While academic responsibilities require much of their time and energy, we do want students learn about United States culture first hand. Dinner in a U.S. Home can foster this learning and can be a positive experience for all involved, especially children in the families. Students and families will develop appreciation of how others live and view the world. The friendship that may grow between a students and the host promotes diversity and cultural awareness that will last a life time.

International Students Services at Texas A&M University wants to recruit induviduals interested in learning about another culture. Our office will pair international students to a host individual/family for a dinner at a U.S. home. It is up to the host and student if they would like to continue their relationship beyond their first meal. A special event is scheduled each semester to facilitate a meeting between new hosts and students. It also gives the current hosts a chance to interact with each other.

Hosts

Hosts are Texas A&M alumni, Texas A&M employees and local residents who usually live in the Bryan/College Station area. The hosts are usually referred to the program by other hosts. By participating in the program hosts become a part of a new tradition to enrich the lives of international students beyond the classroom walls and at the same time enrich their own lives.
