I am pleased to announce the call for nominations from departments, faculty and students for the third annual Presidential Award of Excellence for Faculty Service to International Students. This award was created due to the generosity of the Executive Committee of the Texas A&M University International Board with the primary goals of encouraging the integration of international students on campus, and increasing international awareness.

This award recognizes a faculty member who has made extraordinary efforts to assist international students. The award will consist of a check in the amount of $2,000 for the recipient. In addition, the recipient will have the privilege to serve as “an agent for change” by having the authority to designate an additional $1,000 cash award to a departmental, college, or university effort/activity that facilitates international student integration into the fabric of the campus or local community.

Vision 2020 has called for Texas A&M University to provide a campus environment that welcomes and nurtures global diversity. Faculty members play a key role in these efforts by encouraging cultural sensitivity, making efforts to help international students, and facilitating integration of international students into campus life. The Presidential Award of Excellence for Faculty Service to International Students was established to recognize such efforts of faculty that assist international students beyond attaining their academic and research goals.

Please take a moment to review the criteria and nomination forms for the award, available on the Web at http://intlcenter.tamu.edu/PresAwardExcForFacServ.asp. The deadline for submitting nominations is November 25, 2009. We appreciate your help in promoting the 2010 Presidential Award of Excellence for Faculty Service to International Students.
